Kadıköy Bull Statue
Altıyol Meydanı, Söğütlü Çeşme Cd, 34714 Kadıköy/İstanbul, Türkiye
The Kadıköy Bull Statue (Kadıköy Boğa Heykeli) is one of Istanbul’s most recognizable meeting points. Originally sculpted in 1864 by the French artist Isidore Bonheur, the statue was commissioned by Napoleon III as a symbol of France’s strength. However, after the Franco-Prussian War, it was taken to Germany before eventually arriving in Istanbul in the early 20th century. Initially placed in various locations, including Harbiye and Beyazıt, the statue found its permanent home in Kadıköy’s Altıyol Square in the 1990s. Today, it serves as a popular landmark and gathering spot for locals. The bronze bull, with its powerful stance and detailed craftsmanship, represents strength and resilience, fitting for Kadıköy’s vibrant atmosphere. Surrounded by bustling streets, cafes, and cultural hubs, it is a symbol of the district’s energy and dynamism, making it a central part of urban life on the Anatolian side of Istanbul.
