Istanbul, as it has always been enjoying most ancient shopping quarters in the world, still presents globally markets with their ages old bazaars. The most famous one is of course the Grand Bazaar that extends for miles like a puzzling labyrinth. The Grand Bazaar consists of several quarters specializing a variety of goods of different krafts. Meanwhile a certain part of its shops are turning into modern average stores selling everything (but similar everything!). All in all, even just for its historical atmosphere that stems from a never-ending chaotic narrow alleys, it is a must see. The traditional artisanship still alive are leather works, carpets and jewelry. The Egyptian Spice Market has long been the center of herbs, teas, spices and Turkish sweets. The are is just behind the docks of Istanbul for many centuries, hence it could be seen as the showcase and storage of goods of the city from all around the world. Regarding also the entire neighborhood around it, the Egyptian Spice Market deserves some time if you are around.
